- Making wears isn’t the major problem, but getting people to buy your products is. Below are list of possible reasons your product are not selling online
1. Low quality photos
Don’t always think your phone can do the job.
Hire a photographer. Not just any photographer, but a professional one.
And with my experience, not all photographers are good at photo editing. Please take your time to go through the photographer’s previous work.
Because no matter how beautiful your products are, if you don’t take a perfect picture of them, it won’t attract people.
I think you know what that means.
And don’t just leave the photographer to do the work. Let him understand your brand story, so that you can both come up with nice concept that will give a perfect representation of your brand.
2. Not using models
Don’t say because Juliet is photogenic, then she’s going to be perfect for representing your brand.
What you don’t realize is that Juliet has been taking those pictures with her phone using snapchat filter.
Fashion photography is a different ball game. And Modelling is far away beauty.
It’s about choosing a figure that best represent your brand (that is, who your customers are).
And standing in front of a camera itself needs a special confidence.
Models are experienced. They know how to put life into everything. They don’t stress the photographer. And their poses is not to showcase their beauty, but to showcase whatever brand they are putting on.
3. Not hiring a fashion photographer
Like I said earlier, fashion photography is another ball game entirely.
And many photographers are inexperienced when it comes to fashion photography.
I went for a photo shoot last year with my boss. She wanted to showcase her bridal collection.
When we entered the studio, the first thing I did was to tell the photographer that this is a fashion shoot.
Even though I told him, he still shot rubbish. We had to take charge and start directing him.
Yes, the shoot went well, but they fumbled when it got to editing.
It was a total crap.
The editing would have been nice for birthday shower shoot.
But for fashion shoot? No.
4. Wrong caption
Seriously, we all need to work on this.
We should all learn how to write a copy that sells.
Please stop writing something like;
“Hi lovelies, I just made this six pieces skirt 4 u. Oya come and buy. D price is affordable.”
You must be able to tell a brand story that will persuade people to buy.
If you don’t know how to go about it, check how those at the top are doing it. Learn from them.
5. Displaying your product at the wrong place
This is called spamming.
Littering everywhere with your product is a bad business strategy and it won’t bring about any sales.
Infact it gives people a bad impression of you.
You should have your own targeted customers. Know where they hangout, go there, make friends with them, and start introducing your products to them.
6. There’s nothing unique about your product
I was going through someone’s wall yesterday. She’s also a designer, and she displayed a collection of floral shirt for sale.
One unique thing about the shirt was the collar. It’s what beautifies the shirt.
Make sure your product has, at least, one unique feature. It could be a button or anything.
7. Poor marketing skills
Everything boils down to your marketing skills.
There’s no point calling yourself a fashion designer or tailor if you can’t market yourself and your product.
It’s unlikely to see a tailor who’s good at marketing and still be poor, but there are thousands of professional tailors out there who are poor because they can’t market their business.
Take time out of your busy schedule to go learn these skills.
8. Not having loyal fans
There’s nothing so good as having people who are always ready to buy whatever you produce. And also ready to help you tell their friends.
And don’t think because you have four thousand friends on Facebook, that you already have people to buy your product.
Likes upon likes are what you’re going to receive.
The most important thing is to let people know your brand. Start telling stories about it.
Let it reflect on your lifestyle, both online and offline.
A glance at your profile should tell people everything about what you do.
You can as well create a fan page, or have a blog. And with other people in your circle or industry.
9. Wrong price tag
When it comes to price, people don’t buy because these two reasons: when the price is too low and when the price is too high.
When doing your production cost, always put your targeted customers in mind.
If your customers are buying a shirt around the price of10k. If you sell your own at 5k, they might have the impression that your product is of low quality. And if you set it at 20k per shirt, they might consider the price to be too high.
Know who you’re doing your business with.
10. Not making it easy to buy (sizing)
Last year when I wanted to create my first collection, sizing was one of the most important thing I put into consideration.
Because I was just starting out, and I don’t want to have customers telling me that they couldn’t buy my product because I didn’t make their size.
So I did what I called “one size fits all.”
What I created was a collection of capes.
Anybody can wear cape regardless of their body size.
Another thing that’s also important is not to create size 8 wears when your targeted customers are wearing size 12.
On a final note, try as much as possible to learn marketing skills. It will help your business grow.
